Karra Kalkman dreamt up The Indi Suites after having several difficult bosses within the hair industry. She wanted to create a place where everyone could start their own mini salon or spa, become their own bosses but still have a community and support without the headache of opening an entire storefront. She created the first salon suites that would reside in Holland, MI and named them, “The Indi Suites.” Indi = Individual. It was super important to her that everyone who rented a suite be able to individualize their space to their personality.
Our Story
Janelle met Karra as a tenant of The Indi Suites, Holland in October of 2019. At the time, she had clients that resided from Holland, MI, all the way to the North Grand Rapids area. In order to consolidate her clients into a more convenient location, Janelle approached Karra about opening another location somewhere in between the Grand Rapids and Holland areas. Karra mentioned that she was already looking into a Grandville location and so Janelle simply asked, “want a business partner”. Karra jumped on board and the dreams of the Grandville location became a reality when the two celebrated their grand opening in November of 2021.
